The Keeper of the Snow

emilybterrell

As a teacher and a mom, I love snow days! This past Friday was a fun day off that brought several inches of beautiful snow, lots of reading time by a warm fire, and quality time with my family. One of the best parts of the weekend was sledding with my two girls. Their laughter rang throughout the neighborhood, and I couldn’t help but thank God for those precious moments in the sparkling snow with them. Those moments were God-ordained. They were made possible by the Creator and Keeper of the snow.

Every snowflake that falls gently to the earth sings praise to its Maker and fulfills his word.

What a glorious thought to think that every snowflake that falls gently to the earth sings praise to its Maker and fulfills his word:

Praise the LORD from the earth,

you great sea creatures and all deeps,

fire and hail, snow and mist,

stormy wind fulfilling his word

(Psalm 148:7-8).

Enthusiastic meteorologists and sophisticated technology warn of winter storms and predict specific amounts of snowfall, but no human or created technology can send or stop the snow. It is held in storehouses and listens only to the voice of God (Job 38:22). The Lord ordains every snow day for a specific purpose, just like he ordains every other type of day for a particular purpose. We must slow down to think about those purposes, recognize how his word is being fulfilled, and praise him for who he is and what he is doing. Nothing reaches us that is outside of his plan for us.
